Skin Care
Raising awareness of facial skin care among middle school students
The request
L'Oréal wanted to help middle school biology teachers raise students' awareness of skin care, and of acne prevention in particular. On African skin, infected acne spots leave dark marks that are seen as unsightly and that lead adults to use skin-lightening products, which are often very harmful.
Approach and strategy
The strategy was to design awareness-raising material that was well adapted and that fit into teachers' usual practice.
We carried out an anthropological study of adolescents' knowledge and perceptions of facial skin and acne. Based on its findings, we designed four thematic worksheets and an assessment sheet, along with a teacher's book. This format, worksheets for the students plus a teacher's book supplying the information teachers draw on for their lessons, matched the school materials they were used to.
