Exclusive Breastfeeding

Propose a strategy and awareness-raising tools to promote exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months.

An anthropologist had carried out a study shedding light on the beliefs that help explain why very few women followed the recommendation to breastfeed exclusively for six months, even though every one of them knew it.

The study revealed widespread ignorance of the benefits of breastfeeding, along with misconceptions such as the belief that babies need to be given water or porridge. Rather than instructing women to breastfeed exclusively, or stressing that giving water or porridge is harmful, the strategy focused on the benefits that breastfeeding brings to babies.
